Exciting news! My play “The Tamale Man” will be featured in Native Voices’ Eighth Annual Short Play Festival. The theme for this year’s festival is FOOD!
I wrote this play while living with my grandpa over the summer, which gave me the chance to connect with him like never before. Of course, this involved hearing his many stories again (and again and again)! Many of those stories involved his experience growing up in Leavenworth, Kansas as a young Black/Kiowa/Osage boy. I’ve learned and inherited a lot from my grandpa and I’ve always admired his dedicated to preserving our heritage. I hope this play makes him proud.
